Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Association to host event Dear John: A Tribute

IOWA CITY, Ia – The Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Association hosted the event “Dear John: A Tribute” at 7 p.m. at the Mill Sunday, Oct. 9th, 2016. The event, which took place on John Lennon’s birthday, celebrated the music of the Beatles with performances from some IRRMA Hall of Fame inductees.

Entertainment for the night came from many different musicians. Shannon Price, a recent IRRMA Hall of Fame inductee in the Women Who Rock Category, was accompanied by Walter Seaman on guitar. Shannon and Walter are in the band Holiday Road together, who play many shows around the area.

Tom Suter, Anne Suter, and Steve Suter, previously members of the band Landslide, also made an appearance. They were inducted into the IRRMA Hall of Fame in 2016. Tom and Anne are husband/wife and Steve is Tom’s brother, with whom he founded the band. Landslide has not played any shows since the early 90’s, making this their first musical appearance since then.

Oink Henderson and the Squealers, 2014 IRRMA Hall of Fame Inductees, played a set of Rock and Roll. Their set paid tribute to John Lennon considering John Lennon was a rock and roll enthusiast.

The night wrapped up with a special all Beatles set from the 2013 IRRMA Hall of Fame inductees Dogs on Skis. Dogs on Ski’s performs about 80 times per year despite coming on their 30th year of being a band.

Attendee Sarah Andrews knew she couldn’t miss this event. “It was such a great lineup. I’m so glad we got to come!”

John Lennon, a member of the Beatles, would have been 76 on October 9th, 2016, the day of this event. This is also the 20th anniversary of the Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Association.

The Iowa Rock ’n’ Roll Music Association was formed in 1997 in order to preserve the legacy of rock ‘n’ roll and the history of music in Iowa. They do this with four divisions of their operation: through education, their Rock ‘n Roll Museum, Rock the Roof Roadshow and with the IRRMA Hall of Fame.
