Day 2: A song you like with a number in the title
Song I chose: “20 Dollar Nose Bleed” by Fall Out Boy
There’s just something so catchy about this song to me. Maybe it’s all of the added instrumentation, maybe it’s the lyrics, maybe it’s Patrick Stump’s voice. Who knows.
One of my favorite things about pre-hiatus FOB was that their songs were so fun to decode. Pete wasn’t one to spoon-feed the meaning of his songs to listeners like the washed up pop songs on the radio did. This song has so many themes to it — addicts and drugs, the government and the governed, a person and their life. All of these things fall under the idea of “folie a deux” — a madness shared by two, also the title of this album. More concepts of folie a deux are found throughout the album.
This song honestly deserves a slow clap for the brilliance in lyricism. Hats off to Pete Wentz for this one.
