New Music I’m Loving! June 2018

Is it just me, or did a ton of new music drop suddenly?! I’m totally here for it. I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve listened to some new music — dare I say, months. But over the last couple weeks, I’ve been going down different rabbit holes on Spotify and have found some new songs that I’ve really been enjoying.

First and foremost, I gotta talk about the new State Champs and Mayday Parade albums. You can check out the reviews more in depth, but long story short I love both of those albums. I’ve been listening to both of those nonstop. My favorite songs from the State Champs album are “Criminal,” “Frozen,” and “Something About You.” From the Mayday Parade album, my favorites are “It’s Hard To Be Religious When Certain People Are Never Incinerated By Bolts Of Lightning,” “Take My Breath Away,” and “Sunnyland.”

Another one of my favorite bands, Real Friends, has announced that they’re coming out with a new album in July. I’ve really been enjoying their second single, “Smiling On The Surface.” I loved all of their EP’s and their first LP Maybe This Place Is The Same And We’re Just Changing, but tbh I didn’t vibe that well with their second LP, Home Inside My Head. However, upon hearing these new songs from RF, I’m pretty hyped to listen to the new album, and not to mention, see them this summer at Warped.

Ever since I saw Boston Manor at Warped Tour ’17, I’ve been super intrigued by them. I’ve tried getting into their last album Be Nothing, but for some reason I just couldn’t get super into it. Last week, I stumbled upon their new music video for their single “Halo” and now I can’t get that song out of my head. I love the mellow/somber vibe it has to it.

I’ve also been getting into some more As It Is songs recently. I’ve only really listened to their last album, okay., as background noise, so I don’t really have a solid opinion of that album. It seems that As It Is is going towards a new emo phase, and tbh, lead singer Patty Walters kinda looks like Gerard Way circa Black Parade era. I’m totally here for it. From the sounds of it, it seems like their new record will be a concept album so my curiosity is definitely piqued.  So far two singles are out, “The Wounded World” and “The Stigma (Boys Don’t Cry)” and they’re both catchy as hell. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on this band, and hopefully will get to see them at Warped Tour ’18.

This next song is one that I stumbled upon on the homepage of Spotify: “Simplify” by Young The Giant. I have no idea when this song came out, but I’ve been into it recently. I like the lyrics, as they feel so applicable to me at this point in my life — constant stress about life and what direction it will take. Ya know, that kinda stuff.

I haven’t gotten super into the band Trash Boat yet, but I’ve heard some pretty decent stuff from them. They’re going to Warped Tour this year, so I figured I better delve into their discography a bit. That’s when I realized that they have two new singles out, “Shade” and “Inside Out.” I haven’t completely formed opinions on them yet, but I’m really digging them.

Like Pacific is another band that I’ve never been super into, but I never really took the time to get into them. They just released a song called “In Spite Of Me,” and I’ve really been enjoying it. I can’t comment on whether or not it’s like their older material, but I dig it.

Lastly, I want to talk about the new Trophy Eyes music. They dropped the single “You Can Count On Me” and “More Like You.” The former starts with the lyrics “Some of my friends sell drugs / but I just sell sad songs / to the one’s that feel alone / you can count on me when it all goes wrong” and I just love the way that it sounds. Lead singer John Floreani’s voice is just super unique in the scene IMO, it’s super deep but he can also get some aggressive vocals down. I dig it. I think Trophy Eyes’ new album drops in August, so I’m pretty pumped for that.

That’s all I have for now, but be sure to check out this playlist I made with all of the songs I mentioned!
